Abstract: ABSTRACT The present disclosure relates to a system and method for authenticating currency notes. The system (100) includes a near-infrared photodetector array (116) having spectral sensitivity spanning a near-infrared wavelength range, generating electrical signals proportional to reflected near-infrared radiation intensity from a currency note. A magneto resistive sensor array (118) detects magnetic field strength from magnetic ink on the currency note. A hardware processor (104) operatively coupled to both arrays receives electrical signals representing spectral signatures of paper and ink composition, and magnetic field signals representing spatial distribution of magnetic ink. The hardware processor (104) compares spectral signatures against stored near-infrared reference spectra to generate a spectral matching score, and correlates magnetic ink spatial distribution against stored magnetic patterns to generate a magnetic correlation score. A weighted authentication score combining both scores determines whether the currency note is authentic or counterfeit based on a predetermined threshold. FIG. 1
