Abstract: Described herein is a system (100) and method for assisting vehicles during overtake scenarios. The system (100) comprises a computing device (102) associated with an ego vehicle. The computing device (102) monitors dimension of a free space available in front of the ego vehicle, determines dimension of vehicles in a predefined area around the ego vehicle and monitors real-time position, real-time velocity, and indicator status of the surrounding vehicles. Further, the computing device (102) detects if these vehicles fit in the free space in front of the ego vehicle while overtaking, based on the dimension of the free space, and the dimension, the real-time position, the real-time velocity, and the indicator status of the surrounding vehicles. Further, in response to a negative detection, the computing device (102) predicts a collision event of the surrounding vehicles with the ego vehicle and/or each other, and correspondingly generate an alert signal.
