MUMBAI, India, July 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411097181 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group AG on December 09, 2024, for System And Method For Assisting Hearing Impaired Drivers.
Inventors include Prashant Mer; Sushovan Basu; Somesh Handa; and Tanaji Suryavanshi.
The application for the patent was published on July 24, 2026, under issue no. 30/2026.
Abstract: A system (100) for assisting hearing impaired drivers comprises an infotainment unit with a transceiver (110) and a processor (102), and bone conduction technology (BCT) headphones (112). The transceiver (110) receives audio signals from inside and outside the vehicle. The processor (102) determines category, intensity, priority, and duration of each signal, and processes them accordingly. The BCT headphones (112) receive the processed signals from the infotainment unit via a communication network. The system (100) categorizes sounds as essential or helpful, with essential sounds given higher priority. Processing involves determining amplification factors, applying reduction factors for competing signals, enhancing intensity, normalizing combined signals, and applying predefined limit. The present system (100) improves hearing capabilities of impaired drivers, enabling safer driving through enhanced audio perception of important environmental sounds. FIG: 1
