Abstract: A system and method for adaptive file-system performance benchmarking in a Linux-based environment are disclosed. A storage target is verified and an environment fingerprint including file-system, kernel, storage-topology and resource-state information is acquired. A repeatability controller establishes a selected cache regime and waits for a stabilization criterion. An adaptive workload phase generator executes input/output phases and modifies block size, queue depth, concurrency, working set, operation ratio or duration according to convergence and bottleneck-transition feedback. Time-aligned measurements are collected from file-system, cache, processor, block and storage-device layers. Unstable intervals are identified and excluded from primary comparable metrics. A causal analysis engine attributes a probable limitation to a layer of a storage path and generates an attribution confidence. A visualization generator produces a performance envelope, workload transition map and layered bottleneck view, while an evidence package stores benchmark parameters, environment information, validity decisions and measurement references for reproducibility.
