MUMBAI, India, Sept. 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641096677 A) filed by Shivanesh V on August 11, 2026, for System And Apparatus For Edge-Based Physiological Parameter Extraction Utilizing Melanin- Adaptive Calibration And Shadow-Penalized Photoplethysmography.
Inventor includes Shivanesh V.
The application for the patent was published on September 04, 2026, under issue no. 36/2026.
Abstract: An edge-native, purely optical contactless physiological monitoring system, utilizing consumergrade optical sensors, which enables the extraction of vital signs while alleviating racial skin-tone bias and motion state artifacts. The former is achieved by harnessing subtle variations in cutaneous chrominance via Chrominance-based Remote Photoplethysmography (CHROM-rPPG), and interpolating camera-frame induced heart-rate jitter with cubic-spline interpolation followed by Welch's Power Spectral Density estimation. The latter is alleviated by means of a CIELAB Individual Typology Angle (ITA) based classifier which actively tunes SpO2 polynomial coefficients at runtime, thus countering melanininduced absorption biases. Finally, a 6DoF head-pose estimator applies a penalization mask to shadowed facial regions in the case of rotational head movements, thus countering motion-state induced artifacts. By performing all operations on the client-edge, the proposed architecture alleviates the need for cloud or hardware infrastructure while still enabling clinically viable telemetry.
