MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511024365 A) filed by Birla Institute Of Technology & Science Bits, Pilani on March 18, 2025, for Synthesis Of Nanoporous Silica, Nanocrystalline Graphite, And Alkali Metal Salt From Biomass Ash.

Abstract: The present invention provides a novel method for synthesizing nano porous silica, nanocrystalline graphite, and alkali metal salts from biomass ash. The process features a low-temperature, one-hour batch operation, complete water recycling, and produces high- purity products such as nanoporous silica with enhanced surface properties, nanocrystalline graphite suitable for industrial applications, and commercially valuable alkali metal salts thus offering an environmentally sustainable and economically viable solution to biomass ash disposal and waste minimization.
