Inventors include Monali Pundlikrao Bulkunde; Dr. Aparna Manoharlal Yadav; and Dr. Bipinchandra Bhaskar Kalbande.
The application for the patent was published on August 07, 2026, under issue no. 32/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a curcumin–berberine functionalized silver nanocomposite having enhanced anticancer activity and to a method for preparing the same. The nanocomposite is synthesized by dissolving silver nitrate in double distilled water, followed by dropwise addition of ascorbic acid under magnetic stirring to form silver nanoparticles. Curcumin and berberine are introduced during synthesis to obtain a dual-functionalized nanocomposite, which is subsequently dried to yield a powdered product. The nanocomposite shows a characteristic UV–Visible absorption peak at about 424 nm, FTIR signals corresponding to hydroxyl, methoxy, and carbonyl functional groups, XRD peaks at 2? values of 38.9°, 44.1°, 65.4°, and 77.4°, and SEM-observed particle size ranging from 440 nm to 520 nm. The nanocomposite exhibits enhanced cytotoxic activity against A549 lung cancer cells, with an EC50 of 125.56 µg/mL and a selectivity index of about 7.02, thereby indicating improved anticancer efficacy and selectivity over plain silver nanoparticles.
