Abstract: The invention provides a novel fluorescent tetracoordinated boron complex of the general formula (L)B(cat), wherein Lis a deprotonated N-(2-methylphenyl) salicylideneimine (LH) Schiff base ligand obtained via equimolar condensation of an aldehyde and an amine. The complex exhibits a stable tetracoordinate geometry and can be synthesized through an environmentally benign, cost-effective, and scalable process. The boron complex functions as a selective and sensitive chemosensor for detecting specific analytes, generating a distinct and measurable response. It is compatible with biological environments, enabling applications in bioimaging and intracellular sensing, and demonstrates low cytotoxicity and high structural stability, making it suitable for use in living cells without adversely affecting cellular viability.
