Abstract: The present invention relates to novel oxadiazole-thiazolidinedione derivatives and their pharmaceutically acceptable forms. More particularly, the invention provides hybrid heterocyclic compounds comprising a 1,3,4-oxadiazole moiety linked through an acetamide group to a substituted phenoxy moiety further connected to a thiazolidinedione ring. The invention also relates to a process for the preparation of said compounds using substituted oxadiazole intermediates and thiazolidinedione derivatives under suitable reaction conditions. The compounds of the present invention exhibit significant antidiabetic activity, as demonstrated in in vivo models, and are useful in the treatment and management of diabetes and associated metabolic disorders. The invention further provides pharmaceutical compositions comprising the said compounds along with pharmaceutically acceptable carriers or excipients.
