Inventors include Ms. Chaya Rani; Ms. Ramandeep Kaur; Dr. Navneet Verma; Akshit Shehrawat; Dr. Gayyurul Islam; Harsh Kumar Sisodia; and Kanishka Chauhan.
The application for the patent was published on July 17, 2026, under issue no. 29/2026.
Abstract: The present invention provides a process for the synthesis of 2,3-dihydro-1H-benzo[d]imidazole-2-carboxylic acid by acid-catalyzed condensation of o-phenylenediamine with malonic acid in equimolar proportions in a 4N hydrochloric acid solution serving as both catalyst and reaction medium. The reaction mixture is refluxed in a water bath for 2 hours and monitored by thin layer chromatography, followed by solvent evaporation, ice-cooling, ethanol recrystallization through a purification system, filtration and water washing. The product is obtained as a light pink crystalline solid having molecular formula C8H8N2O2, molecular weight 164 g/mol, yield of 38 percent, melting point of 300 degrees Celsius, and water solubility. The structure is confirmed by mass spectroscopy showing molecular ion peak at m/z 164, proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy in DMSO-d6 at 400 MHz, and infrared spectroscopy.
