Abstract: ABSTRACT [0019] The present invention relates to a microbial consortium-based composition and process for the simultaneous biodegradation of multiple pesticide residues in agricultural soil using a synergistic combination of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Cellulosimicrobium cellulans. The consortium, isolated from agricultural soil, exhibits enhanced biodegradation through complementary metabolic activities that accelerate the breakdown of persistent pesticide residues. The microbial composition is applied to contaminated soils to degrade organophosphate pesticides, including chlorpyrifos, and has the potential to facilitate the degradation of other pesticide classes under suitable environmental conditions. The process reduces pesticide persistence, lowers toxic residue accumulation, and improves soil quality and fertility. The invention provides an eco-friendly, cost-effective, and sustainable alternative to conventional physicochemical remediation methods, promoting environmental restoration, safe agricultural practices, and long-term productivity of pesticide-contaminated soils.
