MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611094198 A) filed by Malaviya National Institute Of Technology Jaipur on August 04, 2026, for Sustainable Parali-Based Moldable Composite Material.
Inventors include Sundeep Kumar; and Kushagra Singh.
The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a sustainable parali-based moldable composite material (200, 300, 400) and a method for manufacturing the same. The material comprises alkali-treated parali fibres (202), additional natural fibres (206), PVA 17-99 binder matrix (204), and citric acid. Parali or paddy straw (102) is treated with sodium hydroxide (106), washed (108), ground to fibrous paste (110), mixed into a composite slurry (116), compression molded (118), dried (122), and thermally crosslinked (124) to obtain a rigid composite sheet (126, 300). The sheet is suitable for storage and transportation and can be water activated (128, 302) before use to become flexible (304). The activated sheet is molded into a desired shape (306) and dried to retain the molded geometry (308). A biodegradable wax coating (208, 310) may be applied to improve moisture resistance. The invention provides a sustainable alternative for packaging, furniture, interior, construction and decorative applications.
