Abstract: A sustainable hybrid composite laminate based on natural and inorganic fiber reinforcement is disclosed, comprising a symmetric stacking sequence of basalt fiber outer layers and multiple jute fiber inner layers embedded within a cardanol-based bio-epoxy matrix derived from cashew nut shell liquid. The laminate configuration [Basalt / Jute / Jute / Jute / Basalt] is designed to achieve an optimal balance between mechanical strength, thermal stability, and lightweight performance. The jute fibers are subjected to alkali treatment using sodium hydroxide to enhance surface roughness and improve fiber–matrix interfacial bonding. The composite is fabricated using a hand lay-up technique followed by vacuum bagging to ensure uniform resin distribution, reduced void content, and improved laminate consolidation, with subsequent ambient curing and post-curing to enhance cross-linking density and thermal properties. The resulting composite exhibits improved specific strength-to-weight ratio, enhanced fire resistance due to basalt reinforcement, superior vibration and acoustic damping from jute fibers, and reduced environmental impact owing to the use of a renewable bio-based epoxy system, making it suitable for structural and semi-structural applications.
