Abstract: This invention introduces a Sustainable Design Guideline Framework (SDGF) — a design-stage method for cutting support structures in Material Extrusion 3D printing. It scans a 3D CAD model to spot geometric features likely to need supports, then sorts them into categories like external features, internal features, openings, structural elements, and material regions. A functional constraint module checks whether each feature is essential to the part's function or appearance. Critical features stay untouched, while the rest are flagged for redesign. A built-in rule library swaps support-heavy shapes for self-supporting alternatives — chamfers instead of overhangs, teardrop-shaped holes instead of round ones, sloped roofs, arches, hollowed-out sections — chosen through a decision matrix weighing functionality, aesthetics, and manufacturability together. The redesigned model is tested in slicing software and checked for real sustainability gains: less material, less energy, faster print times, and less waste. In short, it's a practical, upfront way to make FDM printing greener. Total Number of Words in Abstract: 150
