MUMBAI, India, June 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641075639 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai on June 18, 2026, for Sustainable Bio-Mineral Masonry Composition And Process Thereof.
Inventors include Hemanth Kumar A; and Karthikeyan K.
The application for the patent was published on June 26, 2026, under issue no. 26/2026.
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a sustainable bio-mineral masonry composition (100) including calcium carbonate (102) as a primary mineral constituent, clay surkhi (104) as a fine pozzolanic aggregate, and crushed recycled clay bats (106) as a coarse aggregate. Terminalia chebula powder (108) and palm jaggery (110) are dissolved in water (112) to form a bio-activated aqueous medium prior to mixing with the mineral constituents. The bio-activated aqueous medium enables surface interaction between polyphenolic constituents of terminalia chebula powder (108) and calcium carbonate (102) in the presence of clay surkhi (104) to form a mineral–organic binding matrix (114). The crushed recycled clay bats (106) are embedded within the mineral–organic binding matrix (114). The composition (100) is compacted and cured under ambient conditions without kiln firing and without addition of portland cement to form a compacted masonry unit (116).
