Abstract: The invention relates to a surgical clip (2), consisting of a closed ring, which comprises a first gripping portion (4) and a second gripping portion (6), each of which has a main portion (5, 7) and a large number of gripping teeth (10) which are between two peripheral ends (12, 14) of each of the gripping portions (4, 6) and extend substantially in parallel and away from the relevant main portion (5, 7), and comprises two elastically deformable hinge portions (8) which are arranged next to the peripheral ends (12, 14) of the gripping portions (4, 6), wherein the hinge portions (8) have a curvature extending with respect to the inner face of the ring, such that the hinge portions (8) and the peripheral ends (12, 14) of the gripping portions (4, 6) face one another at least in part, as a result of which a gap is formed therebetween, wherein the peripheral ends (12, 14) of at least of one of the gripping portions (4, 6), preferably of both gripping portions (4, 6), comprise a large number of rounded or round pinching teeth (16, 17, 18, 19, 20) which extend towards the hinge portions (8) such that, in order to compress tissue, the gap between the hinge portions (8) and the peripheral ends (12, 14) of the gripping portions (4, 6) attains a wave-like geometry or has a wave shape. The invention also relates to a system for applying a surgical clip (2) to a location in a body cavity of a patient in order to compress body tissue.
