Abstract: Abstract Surface-Responsive Fluorescent Carbon Dot Composition for Latent Fingerprint Imaging The present invention relates to a surface-responsive fluorescent forensic imaging composition for latent fingerprint visualization. The composition comprises fluorescent carbon dots synthesized from citrus limon extract and a nitrogen-containing precursor through a rapid microwave-assisted process and incorporated within a carrier matrix to form a fluorescent fingerprint development powder. The carbon dots possess functional groups that selectively interact with amino acids, lipids, fatty acids, proteins, and sweat-derived constituents present in latent fingerprint residues. Upon ultraviolet illumination, the composition generates intense localized fluorescence along fingerprint ridge structures while suppressing background interference. The composition exhibits enhanced imaging performance on porous and non-porous substrates including glass, plastic, ceramic, wood, tile, and composite surfaces. The invention enables visualization of Level 1 ridge patterns, Level 2 minutiae characteristics, and Level 3 pore-level details while providing improved fluorescence intensity, photostability, storage stability, environmental sustainability, and forensic identification accuracy.
