Abstract: ABSTRACT SURFACE MODIFIED ROTARY DRUM FOR IMPROVED ABRASIVE CLEANING OF RECYCLED AGGREGATES AND METHOD THEREOF The invention relates to a surface modified rotary drum system designed to improve the abrasive cleaning of recycled aggregates by enabling efficient removal of adhered mortar through a configurable and continuous flow mechanical process. The system comprises a cylindrical drum equipped with predrilled holes that receive detachable abrasive attachments arranged in customizable surface modification patterns. A set of lids with central openings, hollow ball bearings, and a variable frequency motor enable controlled rotation within a sealed, dust managed environment. Continuous feeding is facilitated by an optional sump tank and scooper screw, while a cylindrical tube with variable size openings selectively deposits aggregates at different axial locations inside the drum. Adjustable flow regulators create multiple internal sections that allow simultaneous application of different abrasive protocols during a single operational cycle. Processed material exits the drum through one or more cut outs into a discharge channel and slide. The system’s modular design enables independent adjustment of abrasive patterns, material flow, rotational speed, and residence time, resulting in improved mortar removal efficiency, reduced energy consumption, and enhanced processing flexibility. The invention is suitable for recycled concrete aggregates and other materials requiring controlled abrasive treatment.
