MUMBAI, India, Aug. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641101257 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai; and Indian Institute Technology Madras on August 21, 2026, for Sunlight Collection And Utilization System For Direct Coupling Of Concentrated Solar Radiation.
Inventors include K. Chitra; Balaji Srinivasan; A. Sivasubramanian; and R. Sathyamoorthy.
The application for the patent was published on August 28, 2026, under issue no. 35/2026.
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a system (100) includes a sunlight collector assembly (102) having a Fresnel lens holder (104) supporting a plurality of Fresnel lenses (106) configured to concentrate incident sunlight toward focal regions. A plurality of multimode optical fibers (108) positioned using a fiber holding mechanism (110) directly collect concentrated sunlight and transmit optical power to an optical power combiner (120). A two-axis positioning structure (114), including East/West and North/South movement mechanisms (112), orients the collector toward incident solar radiation. Combined optical power is supplied to a double- clad fiber amplifier (122) for amplification of an optical input signal. Residual sunlight emerging from the amplifier is converted into electrical energy using a solar panel arrangement (128), regulated by a power conditioning circuit (130), stored in a battery bank (132), and supplied to electrically powered laser diodes (124) through current drivers (126) for auxiliary optical pumping.
