MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641103827 A) filed by Chennai Institute Of Technology on August 28, 2026, for Sulfur Quantum Dot-Based Nanocomposite For Simultaneous Dye Reduction And Hydrogen Evolution.

Inventors include Dr. J. Vinoth Kumar; Dr. E. Ragulkumar; and Dr. Munusamy Settu.

The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.

Abstract: A sulfur quantum dot-based nanocomposite photocatalytic system is configured for concurrent organic dye reduction and hydrogen gas generation. The system employs a sulfur quantum dot photocatalyst (4) synthesized hydro therrnally from a sulfur precursor (1) and passivating amine solvent (2). When illuminated by a light radiation source (5) in an aqueous reaction chamber (6), the catalyst yields photogenerated electrons (9) and photogenerated holes (10). The photogenerated electrons (9) concurrently drive the reduction of dye-contaminated wastewater (7) into reduced dye degradation products (13) and convert hydrogen ions (11) into evolved hydrogen gas (12). The generated hydrogen is evacuated through a hydrogen collection port (15) while clean water exits through a treated effluent outlet (14). The system provides durable, non-toxic, and highly efficient wastewater remediation alongside renewable fuel generation.
