MUMBAI, India, Oct. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641119238 A) filed by M. S. Shilpa on October 05, 2026, for Sugarcane Bagasse-Based Biodegradable Sanitary Pad And Method Of Preparation Thereof.

Inventor includes M. S. Shilpa.

The application for the patent was published on October 09, 2026, under issue no. 41/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a biodegradable sanitary pad (100) comprising a sugarcane bagasse-based absorbent sheet (130) formed from chemically treated sugarcane bagasse and gelatin as a binding material. Sugarcane bagasse derived from Saccharum officinarum is washed, dried, mechanically chopped and ground, bleached using hydrogen peroxide and treated using dilute sulfuric acid, followed by washing to neutral pH and drying. The treated bagasse is dispersed in water and combined with gelatin, heated at approximately 70-80°C with stirring, spread and dried to form the absorbent sheet (130). The absorbent sheet (130) is positioned between first and second orthopedic-grade absorbent cotton layers (120, 140) and assembled with a biodegradable muslin cloth top sheet (110) and a biodegradable wax-coated bottom layer (150). The resulting multilayer structure provides absorption and retention for menstrual-hygiene applications while utilizing sugarcane bagasse as a renewable fibrous absorbent material.
