Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a subsurface vermiculture pod (100) for processing biodegradable waste and delivering nutrients to surrounding soil and method (200). The pod (100) includes an input chamber (106), a collection chamber (112), one or more nutrient release holes (114), an access assembly (104) and a base assembly (116). The collection chamber (112) is positioned below the input chamber (106). The separation assembly is configured to facilitate movement of decomposed material while separating organic waste from processed vermicast. One or more nutrient release holes (114) are configured to enable transfer of nutrients from the internal cavity to surrounding soil. The pod (100) is configured for installation within soil such that organic waste introduced into the input chamber (106) is biologically decomposed to generate vermicast and nutrients that are released into a surrounding root zone through the nutrient release holes (114) and the base assembly (116).
