MUMBAI, India, Aug. 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641094294 A) filed by Srm Dental College on August 04, 2026, for Strontium-Infused Alginate Nanocomposite Fibers As A Bioactive Carrier In Periodontal Healing.

Abstract: The present invention is a strontium-infused alginate nanocomposite fiber composition and a method for its preparation, for use as a bioactive carrier, bone graft substitute and local drug delivery agent in the regeneration of oral defects. Strontium, incorporated either as pre-formed nanoparticles or as ions participating in ionotropic cross-linking of the alginate matrix, is distributed uniformly within alginate-based composite fibers fabricated by extrusion, wetspinning, or electrospinning. The resultant construct combines the gelation and compositeforming properties of alginate with the sustained, dual-acting osteogenic activity of strontium ions, which stimulate osteoblast-mediated bone formation while inhibiting osteoclast-mediated resorption. The fibrous, biodegradable architecture of the construct enables its use as a bone graft substitute and a local sustained-release carrier for strontium ions and/or additional therapeutic agents, providing a multifunctional biomaterial for regeneration of oral defects over an extended period.
