MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521086265 A) filed by Pandit Deendayal Energy University on September 11, 2025, for Static Ac/Dc Switch For Fast Current Interruptions Under Faults For Low Voltage Electrical Circuits.
Inventors include Amit V. Sant; Rushil Shah; T. V. Pavan Kumar; and Het S. Bhalja.
The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.
Abstract: The titled invention discloses a static switchgear system utilizing power electronic switches for high-speed fault detection and bi- directional current interruption in both AC and DC electrical networks. The present invention eliminates the need of mechanical contacts by replacing it with semiconductor solid state switching elements, specifically Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors (IGBTs), ensuring a rapid response time of less than one cycle ( 10 ms). The invention operates using a two-switch topology with an integrated parallel resistor, enhancing system reliability and efficiency. It enables bidirectional current interruption, allowing seamless operation in both AC and DC circuits, making it suitable for microgrids, renewable energy systems, industrial automation, and electric vehicle infrastructure. The absence of mechanical components reduces maintenance, eliminates switching noise, and improves durability. This invention provides a compact, efficient, and maintenance-free alternative to traditional circuit breakers, significantly enhancing safety and stability in modern power distribution systems.
