MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611088547 A) filed by K. R. Mangalam University on July 21, 2026, for Starch-Lignin Bio-Resin Composite With Natural Fibre Reinforcement And Method Of Producing Cast Articles.

Inventors include Versha Verma; and Indrajeet Kumar.

The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.

Abstract: A cast bio-composite material and a method of producing solid articles are disclosed. The material comprises, by weight, about forty-five percent of a starch-and-lignin bio-resin binder, about thirty percent of a natural particulate filler, about twenty percent of a banana-and-jute fibre reinforcement, and about five percent of a plant- derived tannin pigment. The lignin provides rigidity and the starch processability, the filler provides compressive strength and stone-like density, the banana fibre impact resistance and the jute fibre tensile reinforcement, and the tannin pigment colour, the components cooperating to form a solid, non-toxic, moisture-resistant cast composite that is metal-free and free of petroleum resin and synthetic dye. It is made by preparing the binder at a controlled viscosity, dispersing the filler, incorporating the pre-treated fibres, adding the pigment, and moulding and curing without a toxic catalyst.
