Abstract: “STAGGERED CELL ARRANGEMENT SYSTEM FOR ENHANCED NATURAL CONVECTION THERMAL MANAGEMENT IN LITHIUM -ION BATTERY” A passive battery thermal management system comprises a plurality of cylindrical electrochemical cells arranged in a staggered configuration of alternating rows offset laterally by half of a transverse pitch ($St/2$) to form a triangular lattice pattern defining passive natural convection cooling channels. The staggered configuration is defined by a transverse pitch ratio ($St/d$) of 1.35 and a longitudinal pitch ratio ($Sl/d$) of 1.19. The cooling channels direct ambient air along a tortuous path to disrupt thermal boundary layers, induce localized vortex structures, and eliminate thermal wake effects. This configuration reduces peak cell temperatures, improves temperature uniformity across the pack, and increases effective thermal resistance between adjacent cells to passively delay thermal runaway propagation.
