Abstract: The present invention relates to square Petri plate designed for the cultivation, isolation, observation, and analysis of microorganisms, cells, and biological samples. The plate comprises substantially square-shaped base with raised peripheral walls and a complementary removable square lid. Its square geometry enables near-complete tessellation within incubator shelves, achieving approximately 82% shelf-area utilization compared with 62% for conventional circular Petri dishes, representing about a 27% increase in available culture area per shelf. The plate may incorporate integrated grid markings for accurate colony counting, frosted labelling zones on flat edges, corner stacking ribs for stable vertical stacking, filleted internal corners for uniform agar distribution, and optional venting features for controlled gas exchange. Comparative studies demonstrate equivalent culture performance to circular dishes, while improving space utilization, stacking stability, colony-counting consistency, and laboratory handling. The plate may be manufactured from polystyrene, borosilicate glass, or other laboratory-grade materials for microbiological, educational, research, and industrial applications.
