MUMBAI, India, Aug. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641085478 A) filed by Chennai Institute Of Technology on July 13, 2026, for Spiral Channel Cooling Plate For Ev Battery Thermal Control.
Inventors include Murugan V; and Dr. V. Dhinakaran.
The application for the patent was published on August 07, 2026, under issue no. 32/2026.
Abstract: The titled invention discloses a spirai-channel liquid cooling plate system for thermal management of electric vehicle battery modules. The system comprises a thermally conductive aluminum alloy cooling plate(1) having a continuous spiral-shaped coolant flow channel(2) integrally formed therein, extending from an outer peripheral inlet port(3) to a central outlet port(4). A thermal interface pad(5) of approximately 0.75 mm thickness is disposed between the cooling plate and the battery module to facilitate efficient heat transfer. The system includes a plurality of sensors comprising temperature, pressure, and flow sensors positioned along the coolant channel, which are communicatively coupled to an electronic control unit(9) (ECU). The ECU (9)is configured to receive real-time sensor data and automatically adjust coolant pump speed or flow rate to maintain battery operating temperature within a safe range of approximately 25 °C to 40 °C during charging and discharging operations. The spiralchannel geometry maximizes surface area exposure, ensures uniform coolant distribution, and improves convective heat transfer while reducing pressure losses compared to conventional straight or serpentine designs. The compact form factor, with dimensions of approximately 305 mm x 165 mm x io.8 mm, enables easy installation in small- and medium-sized electric vehicle battery compartments. The system effectively prevents thermal runaway, enhances thermal stability, extends battery lifespan by approximately 20-25%, and offers a low-cost manufacturing solution for electric two-wheeler and compact vehicle applications.
