Abstract: A spinal cord injury recovery device, comprising of an actuator-driven self-sizing and tensioning arrangement on a wearable waist belt 101, a plurality of brushless linear actuators coupled to a Dyneema cord on low-friction guide channels to form independent closed tension loops, a respective actuator to instantly adjust aperture size of the respective iris hole 102 in real time for enabling airflow, a plurality of infrared sensors to detect the dimensions of the user’s waist, a plurality of Peltier units 103 to provide therapeutic heating or cooling to the affected areas and surrounding muscles, adaptive magnetorheological (MR) fluid pockets 104 to manage disc extrusion, an array of vacuum pods 105 to manage to manage disc sequestration, a plurality of independently controlled air-bladders 106 to manage disc protrusion, and a 6-axis IMU to monitor a user’s full spinal posture, forward/backward tilt, and overall body alignment in real time.
