Abstract: Solar-powered water pumping systems are widely used in agriculture and rural areas because they are eco-friendly, cost-effective, and do not depend on grid electricity. However, conventional pumping systems often face problems such as high switching losses, harmonic distortion, and reduced efficiency. This project proposes a Solar Powered BLDC Water Pumping System Employing Bidirectional Switched Multilevel Inverter (MLI) to improve the overall performance of solar water pumping applications. The system consists of a solar photovoltaic (PV) array, MPPT controller, bidirectional switched MLI, BLDC motor, and centrifugal water pump. The MPPT technique is used to extract maximum power from the solar panel under varying sunlight conditions. The bidirectional switched MLI helps in producing better output voltage with reduced harmonic distortion and lower switching losses. The BLDC motor is chosen because of its high efficiency, low maintenance, and good speed control characteristics. The proposed system provides efficient water pumping performance with improved power quality and better energy utilization. The complete system is designed and analysed using MATLAB/Simulink, and the results show reliable operation under different solar conditions.
