Abstract: The present invention relates to a solar-powered autonomous inspection robot configured for inspection of overhead power lines and associated electrical infrastructure. The robot comprises a structural body, a locomotion assembly, an attachment assembly, a solar energy harvesting assembly, a rechargeable energy-storage assembly, an inspection sensor assembly, a navigation and obstacle-detection assembly, a communication module, and an onboard controller. The locomotion and attachment assemblies enable the robot to travel along a power-line-associated structure while maintaining controlled mechanical engagement therewith. The solar energy harvesting assembly converts incident solar radiation into electrical energy, which is supplied to operating components and/or stored in the rechargeable energy-storage assembly through a power-management circuit. The inspection sensor assembly may include visible imaging, thermal imaging, infrared, ultraviolet, acoustic, vibration, electromagnetic, electrical-field, and distance sensing components for acquiring information associated with conductors, connectors, insulators, fittings, and other power-line components.
