The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a bearing preloading mechanism (100) for a reaction wheel system is disclosed. The assembly comprises a flywheel assembly (102) configured to rotate about an axis and a shaft (104) defining the axis of rotation. A pair of angular contact ball bearings (108) are mounted between the shaft (104) and the flywheel assembly (102) to support rotational motion. At least one spring element (110) is positioned in contact with inner rings of the bearings (108) to apply an axial force and generate a preload, thereby eliminating internal clearances and increasing rigidity. One or more flat shims (114) are provided to ensure uniform load distribution. An arrester shim (112) controls compression of the spring element (110) to obtain a desired preload, and a fastening member (116) applies torque to maintain the preload. The spring element (110) accommodates thermal expansion variations, while cooperating stop features enable transition between soft and hard preloading under vibration, ensuring stability, reduced imbalance, and reliable performance.
