MUMBAI, India, Aug. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641099103 A) filed by Christ University on August 17, 2026, for Social Intelligence Program (sip).

Inventors include Manasa Prasad M; and Greta D Souza.

The application for the patent was published on August 28, 2026, under issue no. 35/2026.

Abstract: The implicit need for this 15 module Social Intelligence Program is underlined by the India's National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Which emphasises a prominent shift from the content-heavy curricula to holistic, 21" century skill based pedagogical frameworks (Sharma,2024) Furthermore the contemporary research in the Indian context brings out the fact that teacher-centric, punitive approaches are insufficient; instead educators require structured professional training to implement preventive classroom management styles that address behavioural issues without resorting to emotional or cognitive threats (Shukla, 2026). By targeting pre-service teachers within the 2 year regular B.Ed. program, this program directly fulfils the two major operational changes that NEP 2020 suggests for Teacher Education in India. One is the policy's structural mandate to explicitly implement socioemotional learning within teacher training curricula (Para 5.14) and to promote inclusive, non-punitive classroom environments that replace rigid, authoritarian control with proactive, culturally adaptive discipline strategies (Kurnari, 2026; Sharma, 2024; Shukla, 2026). This intervention focuses on enhancing the Social Intelligence, Classroom Discipline Strategies and Cultural Competence of preservice teachers. Based on the extensive literature review and the mapping of the module topics to the 3 major variables and its sub dimensions, the Social Intelligence Program (SIP) design employed 20 modules as an experiential tool with variety of activities to meet the objectives of each module that comprises of small group activities, group discussions, presentations, role plays, practice exercises etc. The modules were validated by six experts, among which three were international and three were from India. All six experts are working in the domain of pre-service teacher training, Psychology, Culture, language and Teacher Education. Based on the Expert comments, the training program was reduced from 20 to 15 modules to take out the occurrences of conceptual repetitions which had surfaced in the original set of 20 modules. Thus the comments and feedback by the experts were successfully implemented in the Social Intelligence Program (SIP) design. After a successful pilot study, the Social Intelligence Program(SIP) was implemented with the large group of pre-service teachers (Government, aided and Private) in India. Tools with validity and reliability were used to evaluate the effectiveness of Social Intelligence Program (SIP) on the Social Intelligence, Classroom Discipline Strategies and Cultural Competence of pre-service teachers. The significant effect of the Social Intelligence Program (SIP) on the Social Intelligence, Classroom Discipline Strategies and Cultural Competence of preservice teachers as established by the statistical analysis and its results makes it an highly effective program to enhance the pre-service teachers' capabilities, demonstrating the readiness of pre-service teachers with the futuristic skills to be competence teachers. The Social Intelligence Program (SIP) incorporates a comprehensive design, a facilitative tool with a unique combination of activities that makes the learning facilitative, experiential, enhancing the learning curve that adds to its novelty and uniqueness. This patent application seeks protections for the Social Intelligence Program (SIP) with its design, the distinctive combination of experiential activities and the implementation procedures that can be adopted for diverse Teacher Educational settings.
