Abstract: The present invention relates to an intelligent waste management system, namely Smart Waste Bins for Smart Cities, designed to improve the efficiency of municipal solid waste collection through real-time monitoring and automated decision-making. The proposed system comprises one or more waste bins integrated with fill-level sensors, a microcontroller, wireless communication modules, and a cloud-based monitoring platform. The sensors continuously detect the quantity of waste accumulated within the bins and transmit the collected data to the microcontroller for processing. The processed information is communicated to a centralized cloud server using Internet of Things (IoT) technology, enabling real-time monitoring through web-based dashboards and mobile applications. When the waste level exceeds a predefined threshold, the system automatically generates notifications and alerts to the concerned municipal authorities, thereby preventing overflow and ensuring timely waste collection. The invention further records historical waste generation and collection data, facilitating predictive analysis, optimized route planning, efficient resource allocation, and improved scheduling of collection vehicles. By minimizing unnecessary collection trips, the system reduces fuel consumption, operational costs, traffic congestion, and carbon emissions while enhancing public hygiene and environmental sustainability. The proposed invention provides a scalable, reliable, and cost-effective smart waste management solution suitable for residential, commercial, institutional, industrial, and public urban environments. The integration of sensor technology, IoT communication, cloud computing, and intelligent analytics enables efficient waste monitoring, supports data-driven municipal decision-making, and contributes to the development of cleaner, healthier, and sustainable smart cities.
