Abstract: ABSTRACT A smart payload release system for an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is disclosed. The system comprises an edge-computed dropper node (101) including a payload microcontroller unit (104), a kinematic sensor (102), a haptic sensor (103), and an actuator (105) communicatively coupled to a flight controller (107). The kinematic sensor (102) continuously monitors flight attitude and enables a hardware-level kinematic lock that prevents payload release during unstable flight conditions. Upon receiving a release command, the payload microcontroller unit (104) executes a Model Predictive Control (MPC) algorithm to calculate a predictive thrust-compensation command and transmits the command to the flight controller (107) prior to payload deployment, thereby reducing post-release Z-axis disturbances. Following actuation of the actuator (105), the haptic sensor (103) detects a mechanical separation signature to verify successful payload detachment. Verification data are transmitted to a ground control station (106), enabling closed-loop payload release confirmation, improved flight stability, and enhanced operational safety.
