Abstract: The present invention discloses a smart traffic light system with vehicle detection implemented using real-time computer vision and embedded processing techniques for intelligent traffic management. The system integrates a live camera-based vehicle detection module with an adaptive traffic signal control mechanism to dynamically regulate traffic flow based on real-time vehicle density at road intersections. A YOLO-based deep learning model is employed to detect and classify vehicles including cars, buses, trucks, motorcycles, and emergency vehicles from live video streams captured through traffic monitoring cameras.the detected vehicles are analysed to determine lane-wise traffic density, and the traffic signal duration is automatically adjusted to reduce congestion, minimize waiting time, and improve overall traffic efficiency. The system operates through a multi-threaded processing pipeline capable of simultaneously performing video acquisition, vehicle detection, density analysis, and signal control in real time.the proposed architecture provides low-latency, low-power, and edge-based intelligent traffic management without dependence on cloud computing or internet connectivity. The system supports continuous real-time monitoring and visualisation of detected vehicles, traffic density levels, and signal status, making it suitable for smart city infrastructure, intelligent transportation systems, and autonomous traffic control applications.
