Abstract: ABSTRACT The present invention relates to a smart traffic control system for providing automatic priority to emergency vehicles, particularly ambulances, at road intersections. The system comprises multiple directional acoustic sensing units, signal conditioning circuitry, frequency filtering circuitry, a controller, a traffic signal control interface, and a dedicated emergency indicator light. The acoustic sensing units continuously monitor surrounding sound and detect ambulance sirens within a predefined frequency range. The controller determines the direction of the approaching ambulance by comparing signal characteristics received from the sensing units and activates an emergency traffic mode. During the emergency mode, the ambulance lane is assigned a green signal while conflicting lanes receive red signals. Simultaneously, a dedicated emergency indicator light is activated to alert road users regarding emergency vehicle movement. Upon passage of the ambulance, the system automatically restores normal traffic operation. The invention provides a cost-effective, reliable, and infrastructure-compatible solution without requiring GPS, RFID, cameras, or internet connectivity.
