MUMBAI, India, Aug. 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641072357 A) filed by Srm Trp Engineering College on June 11, 2026, for Smart Shopping Trolley Using Rfid Technology With Integrated Electronic Display.

Inventors include R Tamilkudimagan; K Safa; Sree Harini S; Swathika S; and Vijaya Saraswathi M.

The application for the patent was published on August 14, 2026, under issue no. 33/2026.

Abstract: The system utilizes RFID tags attached to products and an RFID reader integrated into the trolley to automatically detect items when they are placed inside. Each detected product is identified using a unique tag ID, and the corresponding details such as product name and price are retrieved from a pre-defined database. The system is controlled by a microcontroller, which processes the data and continuously updates the total bill in real time. An embedded display unit, such as an LCD screen, is used to show the list of selected items along with their prices and the total cost, allowing customers to monitor their spending throughout the shopping process. The system also supports dynamic updates when items are removed, ensuring accurate billing at all times. To further enhance efficiency, the final billing data is transmitted wirelessly to a centralized checkout system using communication technologies such as Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. This significantly reduces the need for manual billing at counters and minimizes waiting time for customers. Additionally, the system reduces human errors, improves transaction accuracy, and provides a seamless and user- friendly shopping experience.
