Abstract: The working environment in which manual scavengers work is dangerous with the exposure to toxic gases, overflow of wastewater, and harsh climatic conditions causing serious health hazards. In tackling these issues, this paper proposes a Smart Drainage and Health Monitoring System (IoT based) that can improve safety and efficiency in its operations. The system incorporates ultrasonic sensors to check the real-time water-level, gas sensors to check the harmful gases like methane, hydrogen sulfide, and carbon monoxide as well as temperature sensors to detect the abnormal thermal conditions. Having critical thresholds of water levels, an automated solenoid valve is activated to avoid overflow and blockages. The sensor data is sent to a cloud-based IoT platform, which processes and visualizes and stores sensor data to analyze. An exclusive mobile app makes real-time alerts, live monitoring, and historical data analytics, thus, allowing the authorities to act with time and minimize the level of human exposure to toxic surroundings. The system helps in preventive maintenance by integrating automated control, intelligent sensing, and predictive analytics, sustainable urban drainage management, and health risks to the sanitation workers are very minimal. The suggested solution shows how IoT- permitted smart systems can change the work of scavenging hands with the great parts to safer and more efficient processes.
