MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641080910 A) filed by Easwari Engineering College; and Srm Institute Of Science And Technology, Ramapuram Campus on July 01, 2026, for Smart Qr Scanner With Laser Mechanism, Changeable Qr With Indicators And User Remainders For Fruit Freshness.

Inventors include Thrijagathi P; Thrinayani P; and Jeniffer Prince F.

The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION The invention relates to an automated system and method for detecting and classifying the decaying of fruits using Chemical-Coated QR-stickers and QR Error detection. The system deals with Chemical Decay Indicator- coated (like ethylene) QR-stickers stuck on the fruits which changes color bitwise, thereby inducing error bits in the actual QR as the fruit starts to rot. It then, uses Reed-Solomon technique to classify the fruit into one of three decaying stages: Starting to decay, Partially decayed, or Decayed. The system provides warnings/reminders to the user according to the level of decay in each fruit by continuously monitoring the shelved fruits using a CCTV like- QR Error Scanner (different from Normal QR scanners) integrated with Laser. The system performs real-time, non-destructive, and accurate ripeness assessment, acting as an alternative for heavy systems like Classification models of Machine Learning which are purely digital/technical by integrating real and live chemistry with technology.
