MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641112326 A) filed by Pragati Engineering College on September 18, 2026, for Smart Pressure-Sensing Mat For Real-Time Posture Monitoring.
Inventors include Mr. Venkatadurgaprasad Kante; Mr. Manas Kumar Yogi; Mr. P. Ram Prasad; and Mrs. Tejasvi Teeparthi.
The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a smart pressure-sensing mat for real-time posture monitoring and load distribution analysis. The mat comprises a plurality of pressure- sensitive sensors arranged in a two-dimensional array, a signal acquisition circuit, a microcontroller or processing unit, memory, power supply, and communication module. When a person sits, stands, or lies on the mat, the sensors detect pressure at different locations and generate corresponding electrical signals. These signals are collected, digitized, and processed to generate a two-dimensional pressure map representing the pressure distribution over the mat. The system analyzes the pressure map to determine body-weight distribution, pressure concentration, left-right and front-rear load imbalance, and changes in body position. During an initial calibration process, a desired posture is stored as a reference pressure pattern. During normal operation, the detected pressure pattern is continuously compared with the reference pattern. When the difference exceeds a predetermined threshold and continues for a specified period, the system identifies a posture deviation and generates an alert through an LED, buzzer, vibration motor, display, or wireless notification. The system can also detect prolonged localized pressure and provide a warning. The pressure and posture data may be stored in memory or transmitted to a smartphone, computer, or remote monitoring system. The invention provides a non-invasive and convenient solution for real-time posture monitoring without requiring cameras or body-mounted sensors. The system can be used in office chairs, wheelchairs, hospital beds, vehicle seats, rehabilitation systems, elderly-care applications, and smart healthcare environments. Optional machine-learning techniques may be incorporated for improved posture classification and intelligent monitoring.
