Abstract: ABSTRACT Smart Power Grid Management System The integrity of modern electrical distribution networks is frequently compromised by nontechnical losses, unauthorized energy tapping, and physical line faults. Traditional monitoring systems often fail to distinguish between general grid-level failures and localized power theft, and rely on manual lineman intervention or meter readers, leading to delayed line isolation, safety hazards, and significant revenue loss. To address these vulnerabilities, this project proposes an advanced, dual-tier Smart Transformer and Grid Sense Monitoring System designed to actively monitor, isolate, and geographically map distribution anomalies in real-time. Unlike traditional setups relying heavily on vulnerable internet connections for local safety logic, this architecture employs wireless communication to establish a zero-latency, off-grid link between Consumer nodes and the Transformer node, ensuring localized protection logic functions independently of internet availability. The wireless technology used — RF, LoRa, Zigbee, or GSM — is selected based on the area's coverage requirement and deployment cost, making the system adaptable to both urban and rural regions. At the core of the Transformer (Master Node), an ESP32 Microcontroller serves as the intelligent gateway. It leverages its secondary processing core and Wi-Fi capabilities to interface with the Grid Sense IoT cloud software, mapping physical faults geographically on a digital dashboard for utility operators, with only the transformer node requiring an internet connection. Each Consumer node is fitted with a battery-backed transmitter unit that continuously monitors the house-side voltage. The moment a line breaks, the voltage drops to OV, and the transmitter instantly signals the transformer with the affected house's unique identification number, even during a complete loss of house power. On receiving this alert, the transformer automatically engages a Motorized Gang Operating Mechanism (GOM) fitted to the pole's existing switch lever, physically isolating the affected line without manual intervention. The same transmitter unit also reports the units of electricity consumed once every two months, enabling automated, meterreading- free billing. By comparing the total units supplied by the transformer against the total units consumed across all houses, the system identifies unauthorized energy tapping and flags it as a theft alert. This synergistic approach drastically reduces NTL (Non-Technical Losses), mitigates fire hazards, removes risk to line workers, and improves overall grid response times.
