Abstract: A smart pest detection and automated control system integrates machine-learning-based perception with automated, targeted intervention in a single closed-loop apparatus for precision agriculture. A sensing subsystem, including imaging devices and environmental sensors, captures image and environmental data from a cultivated environment. A processing subsystem, embodied at the edge, at a remote server, or in a hybrid arrangement, executes trained machine learning models to detect and classify pests and to quantitatively assess infestation severity from the captured data. A control subsystem comprising one or more actuatable pest control mechanisms, such as a precision spraying apparatus, automatically delivers a targeted intervention to a specific location only when a defined severity threshold is exceeded. A communication subsystem transmits detection events, imagery, and intervention records to a remote platform for data aggregation, decision support, and continuous model retraining, thereby reducing crop loss, chemical usage, labor, and pesticide resistance.
