Abstract: ABSTRACT SMART MEDICATION PACKAGING WITH DUAL-MODE EXPIRY INDICATOR SYSTEM FOR ENHANCED PATIENT SAFETY The present invention discloses a smart medication packaging system (100) for pharmaceutical blister packs integrating a dual-mode passive visual expiry indicator. The system comprises a blister base assembly (110) with thermoformed tablet pockets (112), a colour-changing foil strip assembly (120) incorporating a yellow photodegradable ink layer (122) over a red substrate strip (126) that transitions from yellow to orange to red through pointillist optical blending as the yellow ink degrades over the product shelf life, and an iconographic degradation overlay (130) in which smile-face icons (134) printed on a degrading paper substrate progressively fade while sad-face icons (136) on the underlying foil are revealed, communicating safe, near-expiry, and expired states. Both indicator modes are calibrated to transition synchronously through three stages without requiring any electronic component, literacy, or user activation. A standardized expiry date zone (140) provides a numeric date in high-contrast format at a fixed location. The system is compatible with existing pharmaceutical rotogravure and flexographic printing processes. Optional augmentation with a machine-readable layer (150) and companion software application (160) provides digital expiry confirmation. [
