MUMBAI, India, June 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641072866 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences on June 12, 2026, for Smart Lift:self-Adjusting Periosteal Elevator For Controlled Tissue Elevation.
Inventors include Vishal Ramachandran; and Deepak Nallaswamy Veeraiyan.
The application for the patent was published on June 26, 2026, under issue no. 26/2026.
Abstract: The increasing emphasis on precision and atraumatic techniques in oral and maxillofacial surgery has exposed the limitations of conventional periosteal elevators, which rely entirely on manu;JI force and may lead to tissue tearing, flap perforation, and operator fatigue. The present invention introduces a self-adjusting periosteal elevator designed to provide controlled and safe mucoperiosteal flap elevation through a mechanically regulated force limiting system. The device incorporates a blade tip connected to an internal adjustable spring mechanism housed within a hollow handle, allowing compensatory movement when applied force exceeds a preset threshold. This feature acts as a mechanical fail-safe, preventing excessive pressure on delicate tissues. The inclusion of an external tension adjuster enables precise calibration based on surgical requirements. With its ergonomic design and adaptive functionality, the instrument enhances surgical precision, minimizes iatrogenic trauma, and improves overall procedural safety and clinical outcomes.
