MUMBAI, India, June 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641072937 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences on June 12, 2026, for Smart Kinesio Tape With Motion Sensors And Led Feedback For Real-Time Knee Monitor.

Inventors include S. Sanmugappriyan; Dr. Kp. Indira; and Dr Ramya Mohan.

The application for the patent was published on June 26, 2026, under issue no. 26/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT The invention relates to a Smart Kinesia Tape system designed for real-time knee movement monitoring and rehabilitation. The system integrates a detachable, reusable electronic module consisting of an inertial measurement unit (IMU), microcontroller, rechargeable battery, and LED feedback indicators, which is mounted onto disposable Kinesia tape using a Velcro interface. The device continuously measures knee flexion angle, angular velocity, and abnormal movement patterns during physical activity. Processed data is used to generate immediate on-body visual feedback through LEDs, enabling users to correct improper motion and prevent reinjury. Optional wireless connectivity allows transmission of movement data to a mobile application or web dashboard for visualization and remote physiotherapy monitoring. The invention provides a lightweight, flexible, and cost-effective alternative to bulky smart braces and clinical gait-analysis systems, offering practical support for rehabilitation, sports training, and joint-tracking applications.
