Abstract: Water scarcity, inefficient irrigation practices, and the lack of continuous monitoring are major challenges affecting modern agriculture. Traditional irrigation systems often depend on manual operation and fixed irrigation schedules, leading to excessive water consumption, uneven water distribution, increased maintenance costs, and reduced crop productivity. To address these limitations, this invention proposes an Smart Irrigation Framework with Water Distribution Monitoring and Predictive Maintenance that integrates Internet of Things (IoT) technology, wireless sensor networks, cloud computing, and intelligent monitoring into a unified smart farming solution. The proposed framework utilizes soil moisture sensors, water flow sensors, water level sensors, Passive Infrared (PIR) sensors, vibration sensors, and an ESP8266 microcontroller to continuously monitor field conditions and irrigation infrastructure. Based on real-time soil moisture data, the system automatically controls irrigation pumps, ensuring efficient water utilization while preventing over-irrigation. Water flow and water level sensors monitor irrigation efficiency, detect leakage and blockage, and maintain uninterrupted water supply. PIR sensors provide animal intrusion detection, whereas vibration sensors support predictive maintenance by identifying possible pipeline damage. To further improve agricultural monitoring, a drone-assisted surveillance unit periodically captures aerial images of crop fields for crop health analysis, dry zone identification, vegetation assessment, and irrigation performance evaluation. All sensor data and drone images are transmitted through Wi-Fi to a cloud-based analytics platform, enabling real-time monitoring, intelligent alert generation, remote access, and predictive maintenance through web and mobile applications. The proposed invention significantly improves irrigation efficiency, conserves water resources, reduces operational costs, minimizes manual intervention, enhances crop productivity, and increases the reliability of irrigation infrastructure. The scalable and cost-effective design makes the framework suitable for small, medium, and large-scale agricultural applications. The invention contributes to sustainable agriculture, precision fanning, environmental conservation, and food security, making it a practical solution for next-generation intelligent irrigation systems.
