Abstract: ABSTRACT Medication non-adherence is a significant challenge, particularly among elderly individuals and patients requiring long- term treatment, often leading to adverse health outcomes and reduced treatment effectiveness. The present invention proposes an IoT- based automatic pill reminder and rotary medication dispensing system designed to improve medication compliance through automated scheduling and controlled dispensing. The system integrates a microcontroller unit, a real-time clock (RTC) module, a motor-driven rotary pill container, an alert mechanism, and a power management module to ensure accurate and reliable operation. The rotary pill container is divided into three equal 120° compartments, each containing seven pill cavities to support a weekly medication schedule. The real-time clock continuously provides accurate time data to the microcontroller, which compares it with pre- programmed medication schedules. Upon detecting a scheduled time match, the system activates a stepper motor via a motor driver to rotate the container by 120°, aligning the appropriate compartment with the dispensing position. Simultaneously, an audible alert is triggered to notify the user, and a push-button acknowledgment mechanism ensures controlled user interaction. The system is powered by a rechargeable lithium battery supported by a charging module and voltage regulation circuitry, enabling portability and uninterrupted operation. The modular architecture allows scalability, integration with wireless communication modules, and adaptation to varying medication regimens. The proposed system offers a cost-effective, compact, and user-friendly solution for automated medication management, reducing missed doses and enhancing treatment adherence in home healthcare and smart health monitoring applications.
