Abstract: ABSTRACT SMART INTERLOCKING BRICK The present invention relates to a magnetically identifiable brick comprising a magnetically responsive material recovered from machining waste generated during a lathe machining operation. The machining waste is collected and subjected to a suitable separation or treatment process to obtain a selected magnetically responsive fraction. The recovered material is prepared and incorporated into a binder or brick-forming composition in a controlled quantity before the mixture is moulded and processed to form the brick. The resulting brick contains the magnetically responsive material within at least a portion of its body and thereby produces a detectable magnetic response. A wireless magnetic scanning system comprising a magnetic sensing unit and processing controller is configured to detect the magnetic response of the brick. The detected signal may be processed to determine the presence or location of the brick and may optionally be compared with stored magnetic response information for identification. The invention provides an approach for utilizing selected machining waste as a functional component of a construction brick while enabling wireless and non-destructive detection of the resulting brick after manufacture and installation.
