Abstract: The present invention relates to a smart highway lighting system comprising a control unit, an ambient light sensing unit, a sequential vehicle detection subsystem, an adaptive lighting subsystem, an emergency management subsystem, a communication subsystem, an energy analytics subsystem, and a display subsystem. The sequential vehicle detection subsystem tracks vehicle movement through entry, intermediate, and exit detection zones to enable vehicle counting, vehicle speed determination, wrong-way vehicle detection, and stationary vehicle detection. The adaptive lighting subsystem selectively controls illumination intensity according to vehicle presence and environmental illumination conditions to reduce energy consumption. The emergency management subsystem responds to hazard conditions, manual emergency inputs, communication commands, and stationary vehicle events. The energy analytics subsystem continuously determines adaptive energy consumption and comparative energy savings. The invention provides integrated roadway illumination, traffic safety monitoring, emergency response management, maintenance diagnostics, and energy optimization within a unified highway infrastructure platform.
